Game Over: My Game Won't Play On Vista

My old PC was still running Windows XP but finally it gave up - the PC that is. The new one came with Vista but now the games I used to play won't work anymore. Should I go back to Windows XP?

If you absolutely want to be able to play that game, you may indeed need to go back to a Windows XP setup. That is, if the following doesn't do the job :)

Right-click the program's shortcut, and choose 'Properties' from the Context Menu that opens. In the window that pops up, click the 'Compatibility' tab.

Check the box labelled 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)' from the dropdownlist and click the 'Apply' button. Try again: does the game work now?

If not, you may also need to check the box labelled 'Run this program as an administrator' (you find it at the bottom of the window), click the 'Apply' button, and then try again.

If the game still doesn't want to play, experiment with other compatibility mode choices and with the various checkboxes you find on the window. You can also have a look at the manufacturer's site to see if perhaps they have an update available that can be downloaded to make the software work on Vista.

Good luck!
