Startup Strangers

When Windows 7 starts after logging on, I’m getting an error message from a program called ‘facemoods’ which I didn’t even know I had. I’ve been looking around, but can’t find the thing and while it doesn’t seem to be causing any trouble, I’d like to get that error message removed. Any ideas?

Yes! This is a leftover, possibly from a toolbar or other software you installed and then uninstalled, and that didn’t clean all its components completely.

Click the start button (the orb in the lower left hand corner), and type ‘msconfig’ in the ‘Search programs and files’ box at the bottom of the Start Menu. A window pops up, titled ‘System Configuration’; click its ‘Startup’ tab.

Search the list for the offending program (in your case ‘facemoods’), uncheck the checkbox in front of it, and click the OK button.

Be careful: unchecking a vital component might damage your Windows installation, so make sure you don’t pick the wrong one.
